BY-ELECTION | Perikatan Nasional election director Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor urged Pelangai voters to reject BN and Pakatan Harapan to send a message against the alleged liberalism of the federal government.

Speaking at a ceramah in Felda Kemasul last night, the Kedah menteri besar used an example of a recent incident, where Ipoh Timor MP Howard Lee had allegedly used his own interpretation of a Quranic verse on TikTok.

Sanusi told the crowd of several hundred that this could happen only because Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi had made Harapan chairperson Anwar Ibrahim become prime minister.

"The sin of this growing liberalism influencing our younger generation is on Zahid. And Zahid could become the Umno president because Umno delegates voted for him.

"If you want to stop this sin, you must support PN. So we can stop this madness by Zahid and Anwar and prevent them from liberalising everything because of their lust for power.

"We may not see the effect today. But if you do not protest against this rudeness (by Howard Lee), maybe 10 years from now, you might see an 'apek' wearing shorts teaching us the Quran in the mosque," he said.

Sanusi was referring to an incident last week where Lee allegedly made his own interpretation of a Quranic verse.

Police had since launched an investigation against the DAP representative after receiving reports.

Sanusi added it was insulting for Lee to use a Quranic verse in his argument as the DAP central executive committee member is not a Muslim and has no expertise in interpreting the holy book.

He told the ceramah attendees how the Muslims in Indonesia and their government had reacted when an Indonesian non-Muslim politician known as Ahok quoted a Quranic verse during his campaign in 2016.

According to Sanusi, there was a widespread protest in Indonesia against Ahok before the former governor was charged in court and punished with a jail sentence.

"However, in Malaysia when Anwar becomes the prime minister (it is the other way around). When an ustaz criticised (Lee) for interpreting a Quranic verse, the ustaz was called by the police. This is why I am angry.

"Do not let BN win (in Pelangai). If BN wins again, it will signal to Anwar and his goons that what they are doing now is right," Sanusi added.
